The scissor door is quite different from the gullwing door. While opening,
the scissor door rotates about the compound angle door hinge and ends up
mostly forward of the door opening rather than above it. Unlike the gullwing
door, which is hinged at the top, the scissor door is hinged at the front.
However, like the gullwing door, the scissor door, when opened, remains much
closer to the car body than does a "conventional" door. When the gullwing door
is open it rests somewhat perpendicular to the plane of the roof. When the
scissor door is open it rests mostly parallel to, mostly forward of, and
slightly elevated above the door opening, with the leading edge of the door
pointing at an angle downward. I believe the Lamborghini Countach, among
others, used the scissor door.

I just got my copy of the Checker Auto Parts 2000 Calendar today, and March
is looking like a very good month!
My DeLorean is the newest car in the calendar by about 12 years, with the
other cars ranging from a '38 Plymouth to a '70 Chevelle. All the photos
are just stunning in regards to the backgrounds, and all the months feature
a photo of the owner as well as the engine compartment.
I will be going to Phoenix for the weekend, and I will be picking up some
extra copies. Anyone that would like me to get them one, let me know by
about 2pm Thursday (11/18) afternoon. The calendars cost $1, and mailing
(to a US address) would be less than that.

Hi Group,
I am not a DeLorean owner, but I feel that I have a valid opinion
when it comes to DeLoreans. I believe that the new DeLorean, if ever
produced, should look like the original DeLorean. I'm sure it can be
designed, it just needs a 90's twist to it. I have faith in JZD, I
don't think he'd step completely away from the original style of the D,
but then again, that's just my opinion.

Is the performance increase noticable after fitting a single turbo?
what are the 0-60 times?
When in rpm does it start to 'whistle'
how much to fit?
Would you have gone for the twin's or is this more than enough?
Thanks in advance
thanks

My car isn't an early one (vin# 6938) but when I turbocharged it with a
single turbo about 40,000 miles back I installed a glass pack muffler which
is considerably smaller in diameter than the stock Walker muffler. I removed
the heat sheild at that time and have had no ill effects. Admittedly, the
smaller muffler dissipates the heat further from the engine than the stock
muffler.

It's not that the frame breaks, it's that the frame is not
rigid enough to handle the forces induced by a
high-torque or high- horsepower application. Handling
is adversely affected if you are continuously lifting the
left front wheel off the pavement when applying power
out of a curve.

Having owned a Lamborghini Countach (bright yellow!) I can confirm the
door arrangement. The scissor door is not remotely like our DMC gullwing
arrangement, not even close.
It is worth mentioning that there have been several concept cars with True
gullwing arrangements, but only the 300-SL and DMC-12 were ever in
production...oh forgot the other one, Bowhinky, Burtromed, or was that a
scared Nash rambler, well some thing like that had a very leaky gull wing
as well.

"Stainless" High Carbon steel, while it has many favorable attributes such as
it's ability to resist the chemical reaction we affectionally call rusting,
has trade-offs, especially in areas of strength, tensile, shear etc. and
reacts differently at dif. temps. Before voting on this poll I would be
interested in engineering reports on the safety of a stainless steel "D"
frame.

Hi All,
Just a passing note on DMC-12 cooling.
The cooling problems of the DMC-12 are well known and documented Including
a very inexpensive minor modification out lined in a Delorean world
magazine article. The NCDMC recently had a "Bleed Kit Party" in which
members received the kits. So far the two that were installed have worked
to perfection and eliminated any chance of an "Air locked coolant problem".
An air lock is probably the most common reason that the DMC over heats,
and for some the hardest to correct. In most cases once any substantial air
is trapped in the coolant system, the over heating starts and as time
passes, becomes worse. Bleeding and refilling the coolant system was the
only way to resolve this problem. Add to this that an air lock can form
with out any opening or unsealing of the coolant system due to cavitation,
even the best maintained DMC-12 may develop heating problems. Past
replacement of the stock radiator with the metal double core unit the bleed
kit is the only practical solution that I am aware of.
How it Works!
The bleed kit is installed at the Bleed Screw Part # 10214, mounted in the
Thermostat cover part # 102140 (on the water pump) and connects the heater
Bleed hose part # 101760 that is a "tee" off the Heater hose and vents into
the Header Bottle part # 101944.
When the engine is running any entrapped air is entrained into the system
coolant and each time the engine speed drops past a certain point tends to
accumulate in any high spots in the coolant system. One of these is the
water pump. when the bleed kit is installed any entrapped air at the water
pump passes through the bleed screw to the Heater bleed hose and then into
the Header bottle which is now the highest point in the pressurized coolant
system. Each time the coolant is accelerated threw the system any entrained
air is circulated around the system until it is all bled off through the
bleed kit.
When I first got my DMC it was a classic case of heating problems. Once it
had been manually bled several times the temp stayed lower but still tended
to climb in stop and go town traffic, but did not over heat. Now with the
bleed kit installed it reaches normal operation level and stays there town
or high way conditions.
This is a system modification and I suspect that it will cost you points
in any concourse show.

The calendar image of my DeLorean, which also happens to be for sale, can
be seen at the revised page of information about the sale of this car:
http://www.usadmc.com/10570.html
Careful readers will note there has been a slight price reduction -
commission/finders fee paid also if you can find me a buyer...

Mike,
The clock is probably N.G. There is no stop go function, the clock should
run as long as power is applied to it.

Hey Gang!
Quick question...I recently replaced my non-clock console with a dash clock
one. The unit that is in there now seems to be stuck at 12:00...it doesn't
advance and I can't seem to change the time...is it toast? or am I missing
something?
Thanks

Hi again, I just bought my first D this week. It is in very good
condition, but needs a bunch of little things. Nothing is majorly wrong
with it, but I would like to have someone who is very good with D's to
inspect it and help me out with some questions.. Is there anyone near
Central IL (I live in El Paso, it is near Bloomington) who I could bring it
to, just for an inspection? Or does anyone know of a mechanic near here who
is very good with D's? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello again,
(I know Tamir, on his website, has a note from Delorean stating that he
is planning on building another car...)
I have read a number of different e-mails concerning this "new dmc"
that is 'supposed' to be comming out. Other than hype is there ANY
current evidence that there are plans to design a new sports car?
I looked at the www.delorean.com site and there is not alot of info
there...
just curious...

If he does make a new car, I would like to see it in the same idea asthe
original but he could put a larger engine, definatly the Gullwings and
stainless steel, but the whole car could be more rounded, i love the way our
81 looks, but the front end could use a little more redesigning.

I just got done watching E! True Hollywood Story on John DeLorean and I was
wondering......(I know this is probably a stupid question)...but does John
DeLorean own one of his own cars. I have never heard anything or seen any VIN
#'s. Does he own one? I would think he surely would, but can anyone clarify?
Thanks.

The stories I've heard involve similar instances. I'ts not a questions of
breaking, but more of warping. I've seen front and rear ends warp, as a
result of too much stress when cornering. This being after a substantial
modification in power.

Christopher,
I installed a single BAE turbo on my D in the early 80's. 0 to 60 was about 12
sec., after the turbo was installed it dropped to about 7 sec. on 5 lbs of
boost. The engine comes on the boost at about 3000 rpm's.

Mike,
Just some days ago (7th November) I posted a mail which dealt with exactly
this subject. Take a look at the backissues (or your email folder).
Perhaps someone can confirm the colors which I mentioned there, only to be

There is another way to get around this problem. Move to the country near a
town of 1500 people, miles from a major city, where there is no smog
testing. It worked for me, and there are lots of other benefits if you
value your (remaining) sanity.

I am taking the DeLorean from Colorado to North Carolina starting this
Saturday (through St. Louis then Nasheville). if anyone is interested in
linking up on the way, let me know.
I also picked up 10 copies of the Calendar that features James as "Mr.
March" (along with his car...if anyone cares about the car, and is not just
interested is seeing a picture of James) :)
If anyone needs one, let me know. At $1.00 a peace, I don't really care
about getting any $$ out of anyone for a copy (would probably be more of a
hastle than it is worth).
Let me know!
