Rossem,
You might want to start by inspecting the fuel pump area and fuel pump
itself to make sure it is seated down properly and the rubber is still in
good condition. You may also want to check the seal of the fuel sending
unit. It has a notch which when not seated properly will leak gas enough to
smell in the cabin, especially if you top off the gas tank.
Good luck, Darren Decker Vin 5000

A few years back when I was new to the DeLorean community, I looked in to joining the DOA. For me, I was looking for the technical content that would have been available to me in the purchase of the back issues of DeLorean World magazine. Frankly, I did not think it was worth the money to buy the back issues (I may have been wrong, but who knows.) but more importantly I did not like what I felt was a conflict of interest between D1 and the DOA. Even if that conflict did not exist, I dont know that I would have gotten $65 a year worth of value from the DOA. That issue has been discussed many times here before, although not recently.
I instead decided to join the local DeLorean club (I think it was $12) to participate in the activities, and get what technical information I could. This was a "New Jersey" club that seems to have vanished, and merged in to the DeLorean Mid Atlantic club which I am now a member of. Between the DML, and the local club I get all I think I need, and I hope this does not change.
IMHO, the DML archives are the best place to get the answer to any question you have (technical or non) about the DeLorean. The ability to search through huge amounts of data on line for free, and get a number of opinions and answers to your question beats paying $350 to buy a bunch of dead trees to take up space in your house, that you have to thumb through to find the single opinion of the DOA/D1 on the topic.

REM, The first thing to do is remove the binnacle and clean all of the contacts of both electrical connectors and plugs at the rear of the instrument cluster. If that does not correct the problem contact us for more test procedures.
There are only two bulbs in the tail light assembly that are part of the parking light circuit. If the problem is not related to the bulbs it is probably the standard "stressed connections" at the tail light circuit boards.

Also, there was a coffee-table book written about Kiss and Ace Frehley. A piece of the DeLorean came with each copy of the book for a while. I've been looking everywhere for one of those! :)

I'm not going to argue with you that 20 grand isn't a lot of money, but you've got to remember that these folks are in the business of making money. With the engineering, modifications, parts, and time put into this project, $20,000 is a reasonable price.
Being a Cadillac guy, I know you can pick up a used Northstar for anywhere between $4K-$8K. I just had the chance of buying the smaller "Northstar" used in the Olds Aurora for $3,000. I had to turn it down because my D. is an automatic--otherwise I would have jumped on it.
So take it easy on these guys, if you develope something this cool wouldn't you want some good money for it??
--Jonathan #000697 St. Louis, MO
-------------------------------
Is that what it cost for the Northstar engine? $20,000! If that is for a stock, nothing special Cadilac engine that is INSANE! You have to be able to do far better for far less money. Surely you could come up with a better horsepower to dollar ratio.
If I am missing something here please let me know, maybe that engine is worth the money-- I am not an expert.

Hello,
I recently purchased a black 81 DeLorean that needs a fair amount of
work. The car was involved in a miner accident on the right side. It sat in
the insurance yard for a whole year with a broken window, the interior is
completly ruined(except dash). ANYWAYS The original owner bought it back
from the insurance company and then sold it to me. He bought the car new in
Pennsylvania from a dealer with 1,500 miles on it. The car was black when he
got it. The dealer told him that Dupont painted the car to prove that their
paint would stick to stainless. I have heard about dupont cars, could myne
be one? the vin# is 2496 with gas flap on hood and black interior. I know
the number isnt real early but it seems like DeLorean would start making a
few cars before they would let dupont mess with them. The title says "new"
and color: black. If anyone knows what vins were tested by Dupont please
respond. The paint is starting to oxidise so I think I am going to strip it
this summer. I just think it would be neat to know if this was a test car.
I also need a set of USED seats that are in decent condition. Also, Does any dealer out there sell carpet as a kit? DMC Houston does not yet sell kits but said they will in the near future. Carpet ALONE is over $1059.00 if each piece is bought separate. (I'm in high school and dont have that kind of money, is there another solution?)
Thanks vin#2496-its coming back!

Marc,
I agree. I was a member of the DOA in the mid '80s for three or four years, and at the time, Delorean info was scarce, and it seemed like the only choice. But today, with the Internet and the sharing of info like the DML, it makes little sense to pay $65/year for a magazine that is only published four times a year. And the pricing of the back issues for $350, must have been dreamed up by a former Britanica salesman!
Folks, keep this list going, it's a great resource.
