Does anyone have a paint code number or something of that sort
for the front/rear fascia and the wheels so that I can get the right color
for when I have my rear fascia and wheels painted? I know that this was
brought up about the wheels a while back and I thought I kept the message

For the gentleman that responded to me about the original tires that he

Subject: Re: Engine Update

The blurb on Joe's site was referring to the upgraded PRV engine that
we have developed at De Lorean Motor Company (Houston), if memory
serves.

I had the pleasure of driving the first of the cars to be installed
with this engine fromHouston to the show in Cleveland last week. All
in all, I put about 1300 miles on the car on the way up. Alas, I did
not get to drive it back, I was behind the wheel of the "Jean Claude
Damn Van", but that's another story.

We have taken new crate engines and massaged about 70 more horsepower
out of them. The difference in performance is striking. The whole
time I had my DeLorean, I think I got two or three tickets for
speeding, and talked my way out of at least that many more. I am glad
that this engine was not in my car then, or the numbers would have
been MUCH higher. The car is a lot of fun, and reminds me a lot of my
'77 Corvette, though it uses less gas and isn't as loud.

We will perform the mod to an existing, good condition engine for
$4995. To have the mods performed to a new "0" miles crate engine
(including installation) is $6495. Also, the engine is currently only
available for cars with manual transmissions. Tests have shown that
the new engine is legal in all 50 states, too.

There is currently a waiting list for the new engine, and the mods
are only performed in our shop, which means that your car must be
brought or shipped to Houston.

Email me privately for more details...

Subject: Millennium: The De Lorean Motor Company Concours

A big thanks to the competitors and judges at the concours held in
conjunction with the DeLorean Car Show in Cleveland, Ohio last
weekend. The cars were impeccable, and the judges were meticulous -
the results are below.

1st place - John Yersky and Bill Winegard
2nd place - Dave and Susan Teitlebaum
3rd place - Don Gowler

Judging sheets will be mailed to competitors sometime next week.

I'd like to thank the judges for their service to the event, this was
the first time in the history of any DeLorean concours that we had a
complete slate of returning, volunteer judges. The judges were very
helpful after the last concours in revising the judging sheets to
make scoring faster, easier and more complete.

Knut Grimsrud - Operating Controls
Marty Maier - Exterior
Ken Montgomery - Undercarriage
Mike Substelny - Engine Compartment and Cover
Patti Substelny - Interior
Bill Swilley - Luggage Compartment

Mike Babb was very helpful in assisting with the tabulation of the
results, as well!

The next concours will be held at the Grand Opening of our new
Houston, Texas facility next summer, June 14-17, 2001. Mark your
calendars now. Watch for details about the event and the concours in
the coming months.

There's a nice color photo of a 1981 DeLorean that takes up two full
size pages 22-23 in a July-August 2000 issue music magazine called
"gear." It's titled, "BACK TO THE FUTURE: Coke deals gone bad, silly
Hollywood flicks and too-cool doors. The legend of the DeLorean lives
on."
Acually, the seven paragraph article in this magazine sums up the story
of the man and the machine quite well.
The car pictured sold for $26,175 in 1981 and resold in March 1999 for
$25,000. Damn, wish my D' was worth that!
Has a New York license plate that says "SETUP." John DeLorean claimed
he had been setup, so I guess the owner thought if the shoe
fits...........

If you want to see how nice JZD was at the Cleveland show. Look in the vault

Subject: Painted panels

On my recent trip to the DeLorean Car Show in Cleveland, I made a
stop at the warehouse in Ohio and made an interesting discovery.

I found two right hand fenders, one with the word "Ditzler" written
in magic marker on the back, and the other with the words "Sherwin
Williams". Note that these are the two companies that submitted
instructions on the proper way to prepare and paint stainless steel
panels. The serivce bulletin also states that sample panels were
submitted. I feel confident that these are those panels.

Each panel "divided" into four sections, with one section being bare
stainless, two other sections bearing some sort of primer, and the
final section being painted black. Chipped paint in the black areas
show primer underneath.

There was some speculation that Ditzler and/or Sherwin Williams had
painted entire cars for their tests. While the general consensus was
that was unlikely, this should push that possibility even further
into the realm of unlikelihood.

Incidentally, the panel that is painted with the tinted clearcoat has
no markings on the back of it that might identify its source. :(

Subject: satisfaction and fuel tank question

Man... since i got my delorean in march i have
steadily been learning on how to fix the car, today i
replace my fuel pump and all accessories to it and
decided to check into my fuel tank.. well looking into
i saw TONS of _at_dml_#$% settled into the bottom, it
bothered me alot... so i removed the fuel and cleaned
all the crapola' out of there.. i removed the baffle
and it was filled with black gunk, cleaned it up and
while doing that i cleaned up the fuel filter in the
baffle. That filter was clogged beyond belief, i cant
believe the car even got gas to run it was so clogged.
Cleaned that jammy up, put it all back together and
it seems (G) to run a'hell-of-a' lot better. I felt so
satisfied after this.

Now the questions i have are:

The baffle, there are 2 coat hanger looking peices of
metal that fit into the baffle, what are their
purpose?, i did not put these two peices in because of
time constraints, can i get away with not having them
in?

Secondly i have a new fuel filter canister, are there
any special precautions to installing this? As this is
the last peice i need to put in. Thanks guys!!

Subject: RE: Engine Update

Adding a turbo seems like a lousy deal now. The turbo that Chris C
mentioned before from A1-Turbo was for just the turbine, not the whole turbo
kit. Full turbo kits are in the $3-6k range, uninstalled. Sure makes the
hot-rodded PRV6 from Houston look awful good for the price. This is what
I've got in my DMC, with a crated engine since mine had +100k miles. So far
I've only been able to drive it around Cleveland following taped
instructions. :-) I can definitely feel the difference and I'm dying to
try it out on my home Texas roads, but it's in Houston getting the finishing
touches.

By the way, I had a great time in Cleveland, and there were too many people
to meet! I wish I had more time to spend with everyone. That was by far
the best car show I've attended. It could only have been made better if
we'd had access to a track or even an autocross course (but I'm only saying
that because I have the new engine) LOL.

   A:
The front directional bulb socket contacts suffer from corrosion due to
their
"close to the ground" location. This distortion of the socket causes a short
circuit. Try spraying some WD-40 into the socket, if this does not work you
may need to replace the entire socket. Be sure you are using the correct
bulb.

A: The rear defrost lamp indicates that the heating element in the rear
window is on, this is controlled by the center console defrost switch
located between the power window switches and has no correlation with the
AC/heater control. To determine if you have a defective switch pull the
entire switch out of its location and unplug the connector from the back of
the switch, if the lamp goes out the switch is defective.

  A:
The problem you are describing is typical of the Ducellier which has an
extremely high failure rate. Although the DeLorean specific alternators are
expensive they are simple to install with no major modifications.

I believe under the body supports (metal plates) is the proper way..I tend
to put bits off thick rubber on my trolley jack and pet it under the
suspension as on most cars. BTW..an MOT is an annual "condition" / road
worthiness test we have in the UK.

There is a RHD drive DeLorean in Hong Kong which is owned by a friend who
lives there.
It was sitting in bits in a garage for 5 years and he now owns it and is
restoring/re building it.
He is on this list.

Subject: Re: Different DMC Fuel Senders?

The FuelZilla, and all of the available ZILLA products offered by PJ
Grady Inc., were installed in my DeLorean.
The FuelZilla Sending unit, Door LockZilla, and especially the FanZilla
have increased the smooth operation of VIN 3713.
I like how the Fan ZIlla turns on the radiator fans one at a time. This
operation of the radiator fans is much easier on the entire electrical system.
