Subject: Speakers...
Hey List,
Now that I have the panels of my car off I want to get new speakers for
it and I was searching online for some speakers and I came across 2 that I
liked. I don't want to go crazy with the speakers I just want to use the
original mounting points and not add any more speakers. I found a speaker
that I think should fit in the space for it in the rear of the car at URL:
http://www.sound-creations.com/Speakers/AS41.htm?cart=30385015892339
And I found speakers that I like for the front at URL:
http://www.sound-creations.com/Speakers/AS31.htm?cart=30385015892339
I was just wondering if you think these speakers are good for my car and if
they will fit in the Delorean or maybe you might tell me a better speaker
for the DeLorean. Thanks!
Later,
Nick

Group,
If one is buying a DeLorean that runs and drives and has "few"
problems as seen in a first inspection, what should be the first things you
tackle in trying to get the car up to optimum running order and daily driver
status? Any secrets to avoiding costly repair bills?
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Joe,
I'm not really sure if I do, but the symptoms are pointing to the fuel
distributor. The mechanic thought #4 cylinder was dead because it was
getting spark, but not fuel. He replaced the injector, and then #3 stopped
working. I had a ton of water in the tank over the winter (and probably in
the engine/lines). If you have any other ideas, it would be very
appreciated!!!
Thanks.

You should NOT cut the trim that overhangs the panel, when reglued this
helps hold the panel in place and is why a minimal number of screws are used.
If you use a hair dryer or heatgun properly you don't need to cut anything..

Subject: John Z DeLorean
I had the pleasure to finally meet John Z DeLorean himself in person
Wedensday night at his Nephew's Commissioner Kickoff campaign gathering.
John was of course the main speaker and as Mike pointed out made quite a
political debut. Even got after Bob Dole and Viagra.
There is so much to say that there is not enough space here to say it but the
one thing that I did see was his appreciation of the DeLoreans. As he was
leaving he came over to my car and asked me about it. After seeing it he
commented that it looked better than when it left the factory and he just
looked it over for a few minutes then we had our picture taken.
His brother Charles who sold me the car told me if he knew it was that good
he would have charged me more.
A great Family and a Great car
for pictures of the DeLorean family (and me, sorry lol)
they will be posted in the next day or so on my web page
<A HREF="http://deloreancarshow.com">deloreancarshow.com</A>
The show is filling up fast and I am starting to work on alternate hotels
There is no question that the 80 rooms at the Holiday Inn will be gone within
the week there are less than 10 left.
I will post alternatives once I find them.
There is also an antique car show going on at the same time at Burke
Lakefront airport, a five minute walk (10 minute drive).
In addition I have the pleasure to announce that there will be airbrushed
T-shirts with no two alike that will be available featuring all models 81-83
plus the Brandy's time machine.
The shirts will be comprably priced as you would find them anywhere else
starting at $40.00 and up. So far the most expensive one is $79.00
Wanna guess which one?
I can also put a picture of you and your D on a T-shirt and if you send me
the pictures before the show they are $8.00 at the show it will be $10.00 one
side $12 two sides.
Photos of you and your car on an 8 1/2 x 11 will be $10.00 and a 4x6 will be
$5.00 if you want them I will supplyy the digital camera for it so if you
don't have a camera don't worry.
The photos can be taken the day of the show or at the Crawford and we will
try to process them there while you wait. I am looking for computer
volunteers to help me on this one I have two printers to run plus a show.
Any volunteers????
There is still more to come in the next few days
(contracts are a pain)
Ken

I have a question, which is making me very curious. Why is it that on a lot

er, vertical....? I'm sure it's not a idling problem, but it is bugging me a
bit! Anyone care to explain?
Thanks

As far as the front, I can't comment on those, I still have craigs running in
them. The back though, I did replace with Pioneer TS-A4103. Very good for
rear speakers. You can find them at crutchfield.com

Subject: coolant lines
Hey guys:
I am going to replace all of the hoses and coolant and temp sensor very soon
(because they are all original). What I am wondering is about the hoses
that are "under the manifold". I guess you have to remove the manifold?
Question: what is the cost for these hoses (four?) and the gasket for the
manifold? Is there anything else I will need other than the gasket and
hoses and clamps? How long should this project take? Also, do you seal the
gasket with a sealer?
Thanks,
Brian

Subject: Re: Re: Cadillac By Delorean
DeLorean Cadillac is a car dealership in Cleveland, Ohio previously
owned by Charles DeLorean. (John's brother) It is now owned by Charles'
son Mark, who is the guy running for County Commissioner. The website has
been in the works for a while now, and was finally uploaded sometime in the
last few weeks.
It's interesting because this is John's family, they are very nice
people and it's nice to see that they are doing well! It has a link to
DMC Houston and a breif mention of the D2K show in June simply because Mark
and his company know what a great car we have. The web site is however
mainly for the Cadillac dealership, so that's what's there mostly. If you
missed it the first time the URL is:
http://www.deloreancadillac.com
If you're in the market for a car that holds more than two people, buy
a Cadillac from this man!!
Ciao,
Josh

PS-John's speech was very humorous and overall he's the kind of guy that
everybody would want to be friends with. I'll upload the images I took at
the event to my website soon!

Nick and whoever else might be wondering,
The most likely explanation of this phenomenon is that when the DeLorean
engine is shut off, the tach usually doesn't return to zero but rather freezes
where it was last, or sometimes jumps a bit higher. When you crank the engine
the tach returns to zero until the engine has started.
Given that the electronics are made by Lucas may help to explain the needle
jump. It also does other sorts of weird things, like when the battery power is
low on mine, the tach needle will spin around violently. My Dad's is not
connected properly and jumps around all the time. Who knows what other
"indicators" Lucas thought they were putting in to help, but are generally just
a hinderance! However, it is still the most reliable guage by which to judge
your speed when your speedo cable and/or angle drive break.

I wondered this myself at first, but I believe that the reason for this is
the electronic instrumentation. I suppose when the car shuts off, the
needle holds at whatever position it was at last. I can't tell which cars
are running in the pictures and which aren't!
