Subject: anyone have used door head liners?

Sorry for using the DML for this but, does anyone have a set of used
door headliners they want to sell/give away? I don't care about the
color or condition the cloth on them is. I only care about the
condition of the cardboard backing material (or whatever it is made
out of) of the headliner. I have the two center peices but the two
door ones were missing when I purchased my car. I don't want to
purchase a complete set from the delorean dealers (for color
matching), I would rather spend the money on the saftey aspects of
getting my car on the road (master brake cylinder, etc.) Please email
me privateley if you have or know anyone who has them. Planning a
wedding is causeing me to restore my car slowly due to the funds.

Thanks.
Steve

In response to this and the other '83-ism, my 1983 Canadian D (vin 17106)
had the following characteristics that I didn't think were part of the
"regular" D and which I know has not been added by myself or the previous
owner (I'm the 2nd owner, he purchased it new)

The interior is grey with black sunvisors, it has the fully metric gauges,
the 'small' exhaust pipes, the trailing arm shield studs are the one piece
strip, not individual, it has a block heater.

And probably one of the odder things, which can in an envelop from DMC
Houston, (which I'm not sure they intended to or it was stuck inside) is the
fuel filler sticker ... in French.

Still discovering things, I'm sure ....

It's generally thought that the Canadian market DeLoreans are the
17000 series VINs. They are generally identified by the presence of a
metric dominant instrument cluster - is anyone aware of any other
significant differences?

I've got a story with a somewhat happier ending, although, not anything
that's going to cause us all to jump up and down. When DMC went under, the
Chevy dealership here, as was the case in most other places, cleared out
inventory. They donated (good word, means "TAX WRITE OFF) all the parts
supply to the tech school. What exactly out tech school would do with a
warehouse of DMC parts is beyond me. Anyway, these parts sat in storage at
the school for 16 years or so, right up until 2 months before I bought mine.
At that time, the school sold this entire roomful of parts, which I have
been told had wheels, body panels, everything you could want, to a man here
who bought his 81 from the dealer. The thing about this 81 is that he
bought it, and drove it straight to his mothers house where he parked it in
the basement. This car has a total of 12 miles on it, from what he's told
me. He didn't empty the gas. Didn't unhook the battery. Nothing. He hasn't
even started it to pull it out to wash it. He pushes it out. But the price
he paid for all of this inventory? Sit down: 500 dollars. According to the
shop teacher, the school was just so happy to get rid of the stuff, and
didn't think there was enough demand to try to sell it piece by piece, that
they just sold it at whatever he asked for it. Why exactly he bought it all
is beyond me, especially if he never drives this car, but I think he's
probably selling it off. I've been trying to contact him, but no luck.
I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Scott

Subject: rebrushing a DeLorean

Hello List,
I have stripped the paint off of my car and now have a straight stainless
body. The only problem is that someone lightly sanded the whole car before
they painted it(opposite way of grain). My neighbor said that if I get him
the correct brush he can have it rebrushed by his helicopter mechanic or he
can repaint it. I had to strip the car no matter what because the paint was
starting to flake off and it couldnt be painted over. If I have the chance
to leave it stainless why not try?
I saw a table at cleveland that had a rear 1/4 panel for sale for $200.00
I think it was. It had some minor damage on it and it looked like he had
rebrushed the panel. There was a flap brush laying next to the panel that
looked like it hooked onto a drill. I didnt even think to stop and ask him
about it then. Does anyone know what kind of brush this was? Could I
possibly buy one from one of the DeLorean retailers? is it something I could
get at a hardware store? any information would be GREATLY appreciated! my
car looks so dull right now:( I sorta miss the black paint.

Thank You
Dave

James,
As was stated by both Sacha and Tom, the only other common difference seems to be that some cars (seems like it could be those with all gray interiors) came with the thin exhaust pipes.

Eric Hennebury
VIN 17065 (all gray interior and thin pipes)

Subject: Importing a Delorean to the USA

Well, it's finally time to bring my Delorean south of the border with me. I moved to the Sates from Canada a couple of years ago, and left my D behind at my parents place due to a lack of a garage at my new home. I have since acquired a house with a garage an am looking forward to having my D with me again.

It looks like the process should be straight forward with one exception... Customs is requesting a letter from the manufacturer stating that the Delorean meets EPA emissions and DOT safety standards for the year in which it was manufactured. Any idea where I might procure such a document? Dos anyone have any experience bringing Deloreans into the USA (I know they tend to go the other way). Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I recently bought an aftermarket unit from PJ Grady. Much better than the
original and you don't have to worry about using a part with 20 year old
seals. I would suggest calling Rob directly for more information. By the
way it is very reasonably priced.

<< I have a few questions about the NOS Master Brake Cylinders. Is it
advisable to buy them? I mean they have been sitting around for about
20 years, wouldn't the seals have dried out? The bore be pitted by
mositure? I don't know how they were pakaged, if they had any type of
protective lubricant applied to them, etc. Would it be better to buy
the aftermarket type from one of the Delorean Dealers? I heard that
the Newer type ones do not come with the switch, how true is this?
Also does anyone know the make and the part number of the aftermarket
type Master Brake cyinders that will work in the Delorean without
having to change the calipers to match it?

 Thanks in advance.

I know Rob at PJ Grady has the paint codes. I had talked to him about
painting an extra set I had.

<< Hello List,
I am going to have my front and rear fascias painted soon. The front
one
has decent sized eyebrows. I remember hearing that the fascias could be
straightend out some how. Will the local body shop know how? how is this
done exactly? do they put a bar behind it? just curious.
I am going to buy the paint at Napa because I can get it at cost there.
does anyone have the paint codes for the fascias?

 Thank you

MODERATOR NOTE: THERE ARE DEFINITE TECHNICAL/HISTORIC MISUNDERSTANDINGS IN THIS POST! I would have rejected it, except that I did not want to sensor out the compliments to a DML subscriber.

Hello DML, I think they are part of the regular quarter pannels, I've read
the magizine articles at Tamir's web site,(he has all almost all articles
here) and I stayed up late one night reading them all! I must say their very
interesting, good job Tamir! Anyway, in one article it talks about how they
made the body pannels, from what I remember is that they took a SS
pannel-sheet, put the fiberglass on it, and put another SS pannel-sheet on
top, making a "sandwitched" pannel. Thats what I remember, I'm guessing this
might be what they were for, but... I not sure. If anybody knows anymore
about this, give your 2 cents. There is Tamir's web site if you want some
good reading. www.entermyworld.com
