Subject: DeLorean on Matt Houston TV Show

Recently I saw this TV show rerun called Matt Houston. The Show had a the
main character drive a DeLorean.

I looked up the show information on the net and found this;

Houston's old flame (Cristina Ferrare), a model, hires him when she is
accused of killing her employer, a famous fashion designer.

The show originally aired in September of 1982.

There was an adult movie "Malibu Express" that was a spoof of this TV
show...it even had a DeLorean that was painted Red driven by a Private
Investigator.

Sincerely,
Michael Pack

Jay,

Your problem is common and is related to the fuel (acceleration) enrichment circuit. Because this is one of the most common engine performance problems I am currently producing a five part series, not yet titled, but concerning this subject for DMC.tv.

There are several list members that are knowledgeable on this subject and will surely point you in the right direction, if they haven't already.

I know that there have been a lot of posts about hot starting. However I
wanted to post my specific problem and see what folks think the issue really
is and how to go about fixing it.

When I start the big D cold it starts up will little effort, however if
driven immediately after startup it will fall on its face when accelerating.
After two minutes of running it will run fine.
Different story when starting hot. I have to hold down the gas and keep my
key turned for 30 seconds before the engine finally fires up. It runs very
rich (gassy smell) for a couple of minutes and then runs like a champ.

On Idling my engine surges from 800 to 1200 RPM. I have no idea why it does
  this.

Subject: [ETDOC] JULY 8 MEET at Biltmore Estate, Ashville, NC

OK- I think I have everything figured out :p...

Saturday night (July 7) I will be in around 8pm-ish at the
Quality Inn Biltmore, the nearest hotel to Biltmore
Estate..after we check in to the hotel, anyone interested
can meet us for dinner at the TGIFriday's at the hotel.

Then the next morning, the one's interested in going in for
pictures at 7:30am will meet, again, in the same
TGIFriday's parking lot. Then we will proceed with Renee'
Pisani of the estate to the house for picture taking (I
PRAY it isn't raining!) After pictures we can either stay
or
go back to the TGIFriday's parking lot and wait for the
batch of Sunday morning arivees, then we will proceed to
the Group Sales office for everyone to get their passes to
get in. We will leave TGIFriday's parking lot at 9:30am to
go forth to the estate.

So, I see at around 9:45 we will be all lined up in front
of the house and the guests that want to see everything can
go look around. Since I have seen the place a few times, I
can stay with the cars so that the rest can go look around
and everyone can rest assure that the cars are attended.

Then, say around 1pm we will all drive to the restaurant to
eat; which will be followed with the drive, which Scott
Cagle will be in charge of...The drive is scheduled to be
around 3 hours of scenic beauty.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to call or email.

Subject: AC compressor failure?

hey all,

i recently had my freon recharged and my AC has been superb for about 2
weeks. now all of a sudden it went 'kaput"!

the problem is that my AC compressor is not turning on when i am in AC mode,
or any other mode either. this just suddenly started happening. the fuse is
good, and the belt is nice and tight. i brought it over to a service center
just for a brief diagnosis, and he said i have pressure in my system (checked
it at one of the valves behind the compressor) but he didn't know how much
because they didn't have time to actually get me in to work on my car. i'm
going in on monday.

what can i do until then to see if i can figure this out by myself? is there
any common problem here?

thanks,
Andy

I was wonderin if the passinger window switch is narrower than the driver
side window switch? Is that the way it was from the factory? Thanks!

Subject: 4600 mile Delorean for sale

It is with great regret that because of a financial
situation that I cannot get out of, I have to sell the
only thing I own that's worth anything.

I need the $$ in a hurry which is why it's on
Ebay...and unless I can get $$ out of my 401K it's
going to go to the highest bidder. (and I don't think
I can)

If anyone would be interested in trading it for their
delorean (I don't even care what shape it's in as long
as I still have one, although I do not want a wrecked
one) for my car plus $6500, I could do that too, as
thats the amount I need... if not, it's available at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=593025176

Before you ask - everything works, it doesn't leak,
there are no tears in it... there is a dash cover in
the pics, the dash is perfect with the exception of a
small crack above the instrument panel, which I am
told slips off and can be replaced.
All gauges work, and it runs great. Has over heat
protector installed, along with TankZilla unit, I also
have the OEM sending unit - I will give that also, but
would like to keep it for a souveneir for what I once
had.

It's VIN 855, automatic.

Sorrowfully,
Mike

Mike,

It certainly sounds like a sad story.

What happened to Mr. Delorean? Where did he go?

How many miles should one expect to get out of a stock Delorean's clutch under normal driving conditions? Please tell me it is not like a Lotus or Ferrari where you gotta change it like every 10k mi, but on the other hand be honest I need to know. :)

Subject: Re: AC compressor failure?

Check for continuaty at the low pressure switch located behind the
front right wheel. If it doesn't have continuaty it is either bad or
there is not enough pressure to trip it. Since you say the A/C worked
for 2 weeks I am guessing that you had a leak and now there isn't
enough freon in the system so the low pressure switch is keeping the
compressor from running. Pressure isn't enough, you must have the
proper pressure. A quick test would be a paper clip jumping the low
pressure switch just to see if the compressor will run. DO NOT run the
compressor any length of time like this because if the pressures in
the system go below atmospheric you will pull air and contaminants
into the system. You usually cannot just shoot a little freon in and
fix the system, you really have to repair the leak that caused the
system to be low in the first place! Any shop that doesn't leak test a
low system is doing the customer a disservice in that they are just
wasting freon, charging the customer for a temporary repair that just
has to be done again, and polluting the environment by needleesly
leaking R-12. My guess is you have a high side leak like the hose from
the compressor to the condensor or a seal by the compressor or the "O"
rings on the hose for the system to go flat so quickly.

One of those "it depends" answers. I did mine at 30K but the old one
really looked OK (had the trans out for other reasons). It really
depends on the driver, I hear 50K is "normal" but it's all over the
place. 50K of highway miles is way different from 50K of parades and
cruise nights.
