Rob, Some more suggestions:

The car was running rough, both at idle(searching)and while driving.
( Searching or seeking at idle while the car is hot is a sign of the CO
needing to be adjusted. Air flow sensor adjusting screw.)

The idle speed motor is turning on.
( more than likley a short in wiring somewhere allowing the motor to turn on
when the screw is backed off or a bad switch or wires are connected up wrong
or an improper adjustment.)

Voltage on the resistor on the bottom right side during cranking was 4.8
 volts.
( To low, This is a sign of the starter dragging down the voltage due to age
or wear or the battery is weak on charge or maby has a dead cell and dropping
to low in voltage during cranking. The voltage should be around 10 + volts )

Voltage at terminal 15 of coil was about 4.3 volts.( Should be the same as
resistor.)

Cleaned terminals at plug going into firewall.
Timing is slightly reatarded.( Why isn't it set at 13 degrees BTDC)
Took out RPM relay and checked it out, alright.( This has to do with fuel
pump turning on and warm up regulator getting voltage to operate)
Mixture appears to be fine.( Mixture isn't ok if seeking )
Question, Is there a relay pluged into the scoket to the lower left of the
resistor. If not, Plug on in.

They're called "Scotchal" stripes. They do appear in the color sheets
in the DeLorean FAQ. Although the pictures do not show the entire
stripes. You can also find the the stripes for sale on Houston's
website as well.

<Just added this to a reply already written (follows). Seems like a
long shot, but would be real easy to eliminate. A catastrophic vacuum
leak will kill an engine. If something's gone wrong with your idle
speed motor that allows its full diameter of air slip into the engine,
car certainly will not run. Try isolating the motor itself with 3/4
inch vacuum plugs or caps. You'll definitely need to crack the
throttle plates without it.>

Starting to sound like a two person job...

Get someone to spin the engine while you check for consistent spark on
all 6 cylinders (use your timing light). If you've got a mark on
cylinder 6 (checked my Volvo PRV last night -- I don't), ensure both
banks timed OK. John Hervey's already approved your voltages. If
you've got fire in all the right places at all the right times, your
problem must be elsewhere.

In the bad old days, a car searching for idle usually indicated a
vacuum leak. But a vacuum leak diminishes at speed. And to kill an
engine, it would have to be catastrophic (like a loose carburetor or
broken intake fitting). Even so, the PRV only has a few routes in, so
go ahead and eliminate this one. Don't forget to check under the
air/fuel assembly where the cold start valve/idle speed motor enters
the intake (is 3/4 inch = three or four vacuum lines!).

Are you sure fuel supply isn't an issue? Remember -- DMC's don't
energize the fuel pump until AFTER the engine is already running. Try
jumping the fuel pump relay to force it on.

An engine will run on starting fluid alone. If you're *SURE* both
valve trains intact and timed OK, give it a healthy dose on the intake
side of the air sensor plate.

I'm still concerned about your 5 second cold start valve. That's an
awful lot of gas. Definitely try starting the engine with it unplugged.

Until your engine's running, don't mess with fuel mixture. I was
probably premature to state that you'd NEVER get it started, but would
an agonizing process of turning a little, starting the car, turning a
little...

Keep us updated.

Interesting car on Ebay originally purchased by Domino's Pizza...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1865080241

We do have the warranty card for this car, which does show the original
purchaser as Domino's Pizza Inc of Ann Arbor, Michigan on 9/23/81.

Doubt that being previously owned by Domino's makes it any more valuable,
but does, at least, explain the paint scheme.

   Grigor,
We don't know exactly when the episode of MCC with all the stuff from
this years 2002 AutoFest will air. If I remember correctly, in the past these
episodes have taken about 6 months or so to go from event filming to actually
making it on the air, so I'd guess sometime next spring. As soon as we hear
anything specific, we'll be sure to post it to the DML.

Subject: Texas All British Car Day - Round Rock, Texas

The 12th Annual ABCD event was this past weekend just outside of Austin,
Texas, and DeLoreans stole the show with 10 cars entered. The Saturday
gimmick rally was even won by DeLorean owner Clarence Griggs and his wife,
beating out all the other British cars in attendance.

In the 12 years they have held this show, this was the first year that any
DeLoreans had attended. I had told them to expect 6 to 8 cars, so they were
quite surprised to see 10 cars roll up on Sunday morning. We had our own
class for the participant-based judging and these were the results:

1st place - Chris Coplen
2nd place - Rob Keslar
3rd place - Shareta Barnes

Much to the dismay of the the other British car owners in attendance,
DeLorean Motor Company Service Manager Bill Morgan walked away with the
grand raffle prize - a new convertible top - so now he's shopping for a new
little British car to put his new top on!

Thanks to everyone who came and helped make the splash that we did!

James Espey
DeLorean Motor Company

As a side note, it was the FIRST EVER car show that I attended where I did
not hear ONE "Back to the Future" joke or cocaine reference - everyone was
very polite and asked a lot of intelligent questions.

Good warning, Hank. In fact I recall a story posted on the DML awhile back about a shop that took someones car for a spin to show off in, played with the radio, left it extremly dirty, etc. This is yet another reason why it is obviously always good to not only take a DeLorean to a shop you trust, but a shop that has *worked on DeLoreans before*. If not you may see your car being joyridden across town, and outside of a car fire or total wreck I can't image any other sight more cringing to a D owner than that.

If you have a cosmetically appealing DeLorean that you would allow to be
used as a static (non-moving) display for a high school dance, please email
me privately. They are wanting to use it as a backdrop for photographs of
the attendees - I don't think there is much compensation available. Of
course, if you are near high school age there may be other benefits to
attending... :-)

I have tried to get Stainless Steel Ilusion in every bookstore,

avail. And I am not about to buy a copy of it from Amazon for $250.
So, I propose to those who have it, I would like to rent it for 2 or
3 weeks for a modest sum, plus of course money to ship it registured
mail. This way I get to read one of the most informative books about
DeLorean, and you get a little cash for something you dont use
everyday.

I was going to offer a price, but I dont really know what such a
rental is worth. Surely a mesily $5 or $10 is was too little, so I
will take offers at my email treehouse2000us_at_dml_yahoo.com . I truely
want to read this book, so please send your offers. Thanks a million
you guys (+ gals).

Ps. Remeber that contest for the free DeLorean car, the link was
posted here about a month ago. It ended yesterday, does anybody know
who won it, and is it someone on the list? I hope so, at least it
would stay in the 'house'. Take care everyone!!

Believe it or not, my local library has one. (In southern New Jersey.) I
asked if they wanted to sell it, since they often cull low circulation books.
No dice. I bought a copy off e-bay instead. Two actually. I'd consider
renting out a copy but for the fact that my pristine $175 investment would
depreciate faster than it could pay for itself. Best suggestion: keep your
eyes on ebay... I've seen them go for a lot less than what I paid. Or, maybe
someone has a beat up copy to pass around?

I saw this car when it was at a repair shop in Kokomo In about 5 months ago. After finding
out that a guy that owns a local car dealer owned it I went and talked to him. It wasn't in the best
shape in the world, looked pretty neglected. It was an automatic, black interior supposedly had
$10,000 in reciepts from dmc Houston but after seeing things that I thought would've been replaced,
like the plastic overflow tank, I would doubt that very much. I was thinking of offering the guy $5,000
or $6,000 for it and try to return it back to stainless, but the guy said he probably wouldn't take less
than $9,000 for it. Anyway, it ended up for sale on his lot for $12,900 and it was sold about a month
later. And yes, it did look like krylon or house paint.

You know, a while back on the list here, someone mentioned an idea they
had about using their DeLorean to deliver pizza. I can't remember who that
was, but if they're reading this, I guess now's your chance!

I don't know what to say about the paint scheme from hell on that car. Other
than perhaps Earl Schieb is probably turning in his grave somewhere.

It could have been worse. I mean after all, there other corporate color
combinations out there that are less atractive. It could have been owned by
Basken Robins, and done up in white, black, and pink...

Seriously though, the car has great potential as either a vehicle for the
SERIOUS collector who wants something different. Or better yet, someone
who wants to own a painted DeLorean. Strip off the exisiting paint, and start
fresh with a new, custom color. If I were going to buy a 2nd D to be painted,
this one would be the perfect canidate that I would choose.
