Subject: Delorean in SpyMate movie

Well, here is an update from the set of the new movie Spymate. I got
called to come out to Vancouver (Granville Island) to watch some
movie-making in the set at 1pm. I drove up to a concrete condo
complex on 2nd Ave and there was my Delorean, parked next to a silver
60s Corvette, a 82 Ferrari and Lotus(2), one a 84(silver) and an 81
(white) model. I parked in the alley alongside all the trailers. I
got talking to somebody on the set that gave me the go ahead to check
things out. Chris Potter along with the chimp were the stars of that
day's shooting. I did not recognize Chris from anything else but he
played detective Peter Caine in the tv series "The Legend Returns"
(Kung-Fu with David Carradine). When he had a break from the set, I
approached him and explained that the Delorean was my car. He liked
it a lot and drove it a little as well in the past week on the set.
During one scene they had him in the car getting out and then just at
that time I ran out of film n my camera. Ran to the cornerstore,
loaded a new film, ran back and the scene was over. I asked him for a
few pictures with the car and he asked me how I wanted the picture
and I told him to sit in the car with me next to it. Right then and
there, some teenagers came running up for pictures as well. The
building was made up to look like a spy agency and it looked really
cool. The five cars were all lined up to be spy cars for the
organization. Not bad! I asked them about using the Delorean in the
scenes and I was told that they used the car already quite a bit so
it is looking good for Delorean exposure!!
Left at 9pm
Bye
John Elgersma

You are going to have to look a lot closer and be more specific. It
could be anything from a C/V joint to a trailing arm bolt to loose lug
nuts, broken muffler bracket, a bad bushing somewhere, this list goes
on and on. Have someone stand next to the car and try to at least
pinpoint the area the noise is coming from and then jack the car up
and inspect. Some clunks coming from the front can be things moving
around in the bonnet. You always have to look for the unexpected.
Today during our Spring Social Rob Grady was inspecting a car that had
a squeaky noise when turning the front wheels side to side. At first
we thought the rack was bad and making the noise but when we stepped
back and looked at the entire front suspension THE FRONT SWAY BAR WAS
INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN! It was rubbing on the tie rods when the wheels
were turned all the way to one side or the other. Your eyes and ears
are the best diagnostic tools, use them.

Day one of the Delorean Midatlantic Sping Social was was GREAT even
with the bad weather. It didn't rain anywhere near as bad as was
predicted and we had a large turn-out. There was about 16 cars at
different times of the day from as far away as Florida. For Sunday the
weather is supposed to be much better. For anyone that didn't come
today the Spring Road Tour will be starting at the Park Ridge Marriott
just off exit 172 on the Garden State Parkway. We will be gathering
for breakfast starting at 7:00 am and grouping up to leave about
11:00am. Find us either in the buffet or the lobby or the parking lot,
you can't miss finding all of the Deloreans.

Mark - There are a few things that it could be, but my guess would
be that there is some room in one or more of your brake calipers for
the pads to slide fore and aft. When you back up, the pads slide
aft until they "bottom out", and forward when you then go forward.
There is typically a small amount of drag between the pads and the
rotors that can pull them a little. You can look carefully at each
of your brake pad sets to see if one of them has what appears to be
an abnormal amount of clearance between the pads and the calipers.
This, of course, is a somewhat wild guess ... a close look at drive
shafts, suspension bushings, etc. might yield some findings as
well. Let us know what you find.

I am just putting the finishing touches on tomorrow's event and the
weather looks to be WET! (Maybe it will clear in the afternoon?) It is
going on rain or shine and many people have contacted me to say they
will be comming anyway. I have gotten word from the local Police Dept
and they have asked that we keep the cars off the street in front of the
shop. The diner next door has allowed us to use their parking lot so
stay out of the Bank's spots and off the street. Last chance to call Rob
Grady for any parts you need. I will have a cell phone on starting at
8:00 am for anyone getting lost. 201-320-4651 When you arrive go
directly into the diner parking lot and check in at The Auto Works.
Early birds (before 9:00am can meet in the diner). I look foward to
seeing you all! For those of you that won't get the car wet wee are
expecting GREAT weather Sunday! Meet at the Marriott before 11:00 am,
earlier if you are having breakfast with us. Any locals (Northern NJ,
Rockland county) that are interested there is a dinner tonight nearby so
call for directions. David Teitelbaum vin 10757

Subject: Spring time blues

Well, I got my D out today to ready for spring, and over the winter it has developed a windshield crack on the bottom, passenger side, about 7" long up from the base of the windshield (at about the mid point of the wiper blade). Here is Massachusetts, a crack that small will fail annual inspection - which is next month for me. So if I want to drive my car past May, I have to get this fixed. Now also in MA, glass with no deductible is covered on all insurance policies. So, how do people suggest I get this replace or repaired? Should I order an NOS windshield to be shipped up here, and installed by a local shop? If so, what kind of shop? It would be too expensive to go back down to Rob Grady's this year (I was just there in December) just for this repair. I also doubt the insurance company will fork over the cost of a NOS windshield ($400), and insist on a third-party glass - if they exist. Does anyone have personal experience or suggestions?

Also, I have a low VIN, but I also have the power antenna, so I don't need the in-glass FM antenna replacement.

Thanks,

-Hank #1619

Order the glass from your favorite Delorean vender and discuss
installation with them. They will tell you to arange for one of the
local glass shops to do it. Make sure they understand what kind of car
it is. Many shops will come to your house and do it right there in the
driveway while you watch or if you prefer you can drive it to the shop
and have it done there. Many shops don't recomend driving it for a day
or 2 till it drys so my choice would be to get it done at home. When
shipping go for the extra money and insure for breakage. Don't forget
the special rubber pad for the rear-view mirror and make sure the 2
clips on the bottom are not bent down, they are supposed to keep the
glass from sliding down and cracking which is what may be the case here.

I've just recently acquired a really nice 81 with 90 miles on it. it
has undergone $4200 worth of restoration and upgrades etc...i love
this car but am pretty disgusted in its performance. im am quite
familiar most of the engine swaps/turbo kits etc...but i would
rather go a route closer to the cars heritage. does anyone on the
board know of anyone who rebuilds/ modifies the prv?? I've searched
the web and found a multitude of prv applications yielding close to
v450 hp, but cant find anyone stateside. Lastly has DMC Houston
dropped plans for the stageII and III engines? I believe someone
told me they had, please help me out guys, im getting depressed and
would really like to complete this dream thanx
