Don't you mean, "check the spring inside." ? :)
I wrestled with this issue a month or two ago. When I finally got
it right, I sent a pic to John Hervey to put in his reference

Does anyone know anything about VIN# 6441? From what I know it came
from the mid-west and ended up in Maryland where I purchased it. It is
painted red...the seat have been redone with grey and red racing lines.
Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

As I said that is what I did to get it to run. but there are still a lot of
areas to check with the idle ecu
I believe the wire that goes through the bulkhead is probably the main
suspect. Could be resting on the exhaust or rubbed against the engine.

I think fuse 7 may be the bad connection as the fuel pump is new (was
replcaced) It still gets hot though even though I am not trying to start the car (no
engine makes that a bit hard.) I do have the fuel pump running just connected
the fuel line to the return so it just goes around in circles.

For those who were unable to attend, the Pittsburgh tech session was
just incredible. Without sounding like a Grammy award winner, I'd
like to publicly thank:

Dan and Judy for opening their home, 'frige and tool box to us, AND
for providing the coolest T-shirts to commemorate the event!

Jeff Porter for taking all of the excellent photos. (hopefully he'll
post them)

Chris Bowman for spending -all- day wrestling my new seat covers on
with me.

Dave Stragand and his lovely girlfriend Juley for hauling a huge
engine analyzer all the way from his house to Dan's place and running
an engine analysis on my car at 12:30 at night! (I was last in line)

For those who are curious about what it takes to re-skin a pair of
seats I have posted before and after photos under #5335 in the photos
section. The seat covers are from DMCH and the quality is impressive.
It is my understanding that the side panels are vinyl but I couldn't
tell aside from their ability to -barely- strecth a little more than
the leather panels.

Cheers,

Rich A.

I saw a DeLorean for sale on Rt33 in Manalapan today.

Vin: 01381, black, 5-speed.

Sign says: 11000 Miles, $22,000 or B/O

I did not inspect the car but did notice that both
seats had been redone (not stock), there is a small
crack in the binnacle, the driver rear quarter had a
few dings, and both fascias needed paint.

I do not know the seller, or the car. Just passing
along the information.

Subject: idle problems

My car is acting real strange. When you turn the key it starts just
fine, then as it settles down to idle, it spits and sputters and acts
like like it's starving for fuel. It runs fine when you are driving it,
but spits and sputters and shakes at stop lights until it gets fully
warmed up, then the idle starts bouncing around on it. When you turn
the key and the fuel pump pressurizes the system there is a loud thump
on the rear passengers side when it shuts off.
It doesn't act this way all the time. Once out of the 5 times i started
it yesterday it idled just fine.

It has a new fuel pump, injectors, idle speed motor, idle speed
thermister, temperature vacuum switch, fuel accumulator, and fuel
filter, plus a rebuilt CPR from John Hervey. I think the only parts
that aren't new in the fuel system are the fuel relay and the frequency
valve. The intake manifold o-rings were just replaced and I can't find
any vacuum leaks. I'm almost leaning toward the CPR being bad because
it started this all of a sudden and it seems to mostly go away after a
bit. It's almost like there is not enough fuel pressure till it warms
up and then it seems like it bounces around. . The timing is right on
and the air/fuel mixture is real close. Anyone got any ideas? I need to
get it running right for a parade at the end of the month.

I would like to avoid taking it to the german auto repair shop and
have them run tests on the CIS.

Subject: Re: electrical short

Sometimes it takes running your hand over every inch of the wiring
harness to feel where the tape and insulation has been worn through.
It is easier if you can remove the harness because it is always on the
backside where you cannot easily see the damage. The previous pump
caused the #7 fuse to melt out of the fuseblock. Now that you replaced
the pump you have to deal with the damage the old one caused. You
cannot just replace the fuse. You should cut the wiring back to a
point that was not overheated, add what wire you have to, and use new
connectors for the fuse. If you cannot salvage the fuseblock I have
seen many cars where they added an in-line fuse holder to replace a
burnt out #7. The #7 circuit is a heavy draw even when all the
connections are good and the pump is running OK. With bad (burnt)
connections you could be drawing too much even with the new pump.

Subject: Turn signals/hazzard lights not working

Hello List,

After doing the modification to make the side marker lights flash with
the turn signals as per the tech files, I tried it out before putting
everything back together and it worked perfectly. However, while
connecting the wires permenantly with connectors, I accidentally
shorted the green wire and now the turn signals quit working. They
light up, but don't flash. So, I replaced the flasher module under
the dash, thinking that would do the trick, but still nothing. No
clicking noise or anything. All the fuses in the relay compartment
are ok. I must have really screwed something up somewhere. Is there
an inline fuse for the flasher under the dash? What else should I
look for? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

First of all, that message was supposed to be private but I accidentally let
it go to the list.
When Jim was speaking, I had mostly a close up of his face while he was
describing the photos.
I wanted the photos to insert into the video so the viewer could see what he
was talking about.
This is a common move done in television, and something I had talked to Ken
about before hand.
(Although he was probably too busy to remember)
Ken told me that I had permission to use anything that I could film or get
ahold of, but I was
in too big of a hurry at the show to remember to get the disc.
He said he would try to get some of the stuff for me.

Do you have a problem with me selling the video?

I suppose you want me to edit this video for hours and hours,
using up $100 worth of DV tapes, spend a few hundred dollars on blank DVD's,
burn them for weeks, do disc printing, label printing, buy boxes, stuff
them,
shrink wrap them, package them, mail them.... and do it for FREE?

I guess you work for free all day?

Hello, my name is "VIDEOBOB". I make video for a living.
I own over $100K in television equipment that must be worked off.
If I were hired to do this gig, Ken could have never afforded me in a
million years to
make this Double-DVD set of the entire show.

I am doing it for fun, and as a service to share the events of the show with
those
who could not make it or those who want to re-live it again.

There is nothing wrong with doing hard work and getting paid for it.
...and if people are willing to contribute to make the video better I
offered to pay for
all shipping and media expenses as well as a credit on the video, and a FREE
copy.
What else should I do Marc?

Did you replace the flasher relay with one from a DeLorean specialist?
Our experiences this side of the pond are such that generic 3-pin ones
don't work in the DeLorean. I've not investigated why, but it's a
starting point. I'm surprised the fuse hasn't blown. When you say the
indicators come on but don't flash - do you mean the actual indicators,
or that the front parking lights come on?

Subject: Auto Trans Shift Points

Hey all, I have a question and I don't know if it has been discussed much in
the past. I have the auto in my car, and really, regrettably, I don't know
that much about the Renault unit. I worked for a company that specialised in Jag
trannys which were pretty standard Borg Warner units for the 6cyls, GM Turbos
for the 12 cyls. With the GM transmissions there was a vacuum modulator that
regulated the shift points for the transmissions. By adavancing an adjustment
screw clockwise or counterclockwise you can change the shift points on the car
to hold for a later RPM. What I want to know before I do too much
investigation is, does anyone know of a way to do this with the Renault Auto in the
DeLorean. Like I said, my transmission has been pretty solid, so I haven't needed to
study it much, but I wish it would hold first and second gears a little
longer.

Thanks,

"(when all the parts were replaced and the engine is hot did you have any

enriched or lean on the fuel.)"

It runs fine when you are driving it,but spits and sputters and shakes at

Have you been inside the fuel tank? Maybe you have a bad pick-up hose.
Is the car acting up on a full tank of gas or is it somewhere below
1/2? Get out any dirt and water that may be in there, make sure all of
the parts are installed properly, and the suction hose is not kinked,
collapsing, or has any holes in it. It "could" be a problem with the
CPR but these symptoms are not generally caused by it. Also check that
the frequency valve is buzzing when it is not running right. You could
have a problem with a vacuum leak because you say the problem goes
away when warm. Some of the vacuum systems switch off (or on) when the
car is warmed up so You could check out the different systems for
leaks. Another remote possability is water in the spark wells. When
you get the motor all warmed up it boils out the water. Do you have
yhis problem after a rain? Is the car stored outside? Maybe you need a
new set of wires.
